Article Writing for Fun - And Publicity |
Business builders recommend that you write articles to gain publicity for your business. But did you know that you can skip the hassle of trying to get your article into print, and drive more business to your website at the same time? That's right! Internet article directories abound. These are specialized websites that contain links to articles about everything under the sun. All you have to do is submit your articles, and be rewarded with a link to your website. And, in case you were wondering, links to your website do more than bring in traffic directly. They also increase your page ranking with search engines. Higher page ranking means that your website will appear closer to the top of the list of search results. Furthermore, editors or other writers may ask to use your article(s) in other publications. How can you go wrong? Ah, yes, you knew there had to be a catch, and there is - a small one. If you submit the same article to different article directories, you won't get as much benefit as if you submit unique articles. The good news is that if you change 25% of your article's text, it is considered a "new" article. Ever wonder why so many businesses seem to maintain a blog these days? (If you're not familiar with the term, it's short for "web log" - an ongoing series of short articles that's posted on the Internet and updated regularly). Not only does a blog give you more visibility, but also, if you are writing articles that are pertinent to current affairs, technology, or some specialized area of expertise, the eyes of media journalists may be upon you! Since journalists work under deadlines, they are often searching for current information, fast. If they find your articles or blogs online, and discover that you are writing valuable content, they'll be back. And if they come back often enough, you may be in a position to become a quoted authority. How's that for publicity? There is, of course, one caveat. If you struggle with spelling and grammar (or if you simply don't care about them), your posts will be of less value to journalists. Don't just slap together some text and expect it to generate interest. Each of your articles or blog entries should contain accurate, pertinent information that is well organized and carefully edited for content, spelling, and grammar. And please, pay attention to capitalization and punctuation! Remember, these articles are creating a reputation for you. Where are these article directories? If you search the
internet for the words "article directory", you'll find literally
hundreds. Here are a few of the better-known ones, as compiled by Small
