| Greetings… Welcome to the first Bright Ideas newsletter. I hope you find it useful, and occasionally entertaining. (I hope the "entertaining" facet is intentional on my part!) I don't want to annoy anyone with unwanted mail, so if you prefer not to receive any more newsletters, please unsubscribe, and I will remove your address from my list. Your address is safe with us. For more information, please follow the Privacy link on the web site. I'm always trying to improve, and to provide useful information. If you have any suggestions about what you'd like to see, in this newsletter or on the website, please email me. Thanks - best wishes for a healthy and prosperous November. Diane Henders |

| Tech Tip: Get a UPS Buy a combination UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and surge protector for your computer. Surge protectors alone will protect your computer from power spikes, but just as much damage can be done by brownouts. A UPS contains a battery that keeps power steady, and usually costs under $100. |

| Article: Get Those Backups Done One of the great truths about computers is that sooner or later, you will lose data. Good backups are essential. In order to get the best backup system for you, consider the following questions: Do you need to protect all of your data, or only critical data? This determines the capacity of your backup system. How many days of data can you afford to lose and then re-enter? Whatever the answer is, that's the maximum amount of time you should have between backups for your critical data. | Lunch Bag We're always looking for great little places to have lunch or coffee! Here's my pick for November: Primal Grounds - 3003 - 37 Street S.W. - http://primalgrounds.com/reviews.htm The reviews call it "funky", which it is… Actually, it's getting a little grungy-looking, but the food is great! If you're a soup and salad junkie, this is the place to go for homemade slabs of bread, and imaginative soups. There are also some great hot dishes, and the homemade desserts are delicious. Not a huge menu, but it's all good. Submit a Recommendation and Win What's your favourite haunt? Every time you send in a recommendation, your name will be entered to win a free copy of "25 Tech Tips for Non-Techies". The next draw is December 31/06. |
