| Greetings... Welcome to summer, and "Yee-Haw!" - Stampede! Love it or hate it, it's part of the Calgary scenery in July. I love Stampede, and if you've got your boots and buckles on and you're ready to kick up your heels, enjoy! But if you're lying low and waiting for it to pass, you have my condolences - it'll be over soon (too soon for some of us). Check out the News section in this issue for the quarterly draw winners - they'll each get a copy of Tech Tips for Non-Techies 2. To get your chance to win a Tech Tips book, as well as a 1 GB USB pen drive or multimedia headset, please send in your restaurant recommendations or tech questions today - we look forward to hearing from you. Yaaaa-hooo!! Diane Henders |

Switch Back To Your Desktop With a Single Click If you work with multiple windows open, you may need to go back to your desktop to open another shortcut. It can be time-consuming to minimize each window in turn to get back to the desktop. Instead, look in the lower left corner of your screen to the right of the Start button. You'll see a row of little icons in the taskbar. If you move your mouse pointer over each icon, you'll see a little text title popup that tells you what each icon is. Click on the Show Desktop button, and all your windows will be minimized onto the taskbar at once, so your desktop is visible. |

| Ask a Question and Win Do you have tech questions? Every time you send in a question, your name will be entered to win a free copy of "Tech Tips for Non-Techies". The next draw date is September 30/07. And in October, each of your contributions will be entered win a 1 GB USB pen drive or a multimedia headset! |

What You Really Need To Know About Privacy Privacy legislation is designed to protect the right of an individual to control the collection, use, and disclosure of his or her personal information. The legislation sets out how you as a business owner may (and must) collect, use, and disclose the personal information of others. Personal information is defined as "Any information that would allow an individual to be identified." This includes information such as name, address, gender, birth date, education, employment, income, medical information, and the like. Although there are no specific requirements set forth in the acts, personal information must be treated in a manner appropriate to its sensitivity. As a business, you must collect only information that you reasonably require, identify the purpose for the information you collect, and keep it safe and accurate. You must also obtain consent before you collect, use, or disclose personal information. Read the complete article |

Privacy Act Training If you run a business, even if you're a sole proprietor, you must comply with privacy legislation. If you do business across provincial borders, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies to you. If you do business solely in Alberta, you must comply with either the Personal Information Protection Act, or PIPA (in the private sector), or FOIPP, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (for the public sector). If these acronyms leave you reeling, or if you're ignoring the whole issue and hoping it won't bite you, we can help. The principles of the privacy acts are mostly common sense, and don't require a lot of changes to implement. But the penalties for non-compliance can be steep - up to $100,000. In just an hour and half, you can learn the basic principles, and protect yourself and your business from penalties and lawsuits. Email or call us today at (403) 692-2255. |

We're always looking for great little places to have lunch or coffee! Here's
my pick for this month: Higher Ground - 1-1126 Kensington Road NW, (403) 270-3780 Erin Russell of the Calgary Women's Show recommended this great little coffee house. With a cozy atmosphere, and great coffees, teas, and snacks, this one's a winner. Perched above street level, its big windows provide a nice, open feeling. If you're in Kensington, give it a try! Submit a Recommendation and Win What's your favourite haunt? Every time you send in a recommendation, your name will be entered to win a free copy of "Tech Tips for Non-Techies". The next draw date is September 30/07. And in October, each of your contributions will be entered win a 1 GB USB pen drive or a multimedia headset! |
