December 2007 |
| Season's Greetings... And welcome to winter! I guess the good news is that our "real" winter is going to feel a little shorter - in a couple of weeks, the days will start to get longer again. Speaking of longer days, our office will be closed on December 21, and remain closed over Christmas - we'll be back at work on January 2, 2008. Thank you to everyone who voted in last month's newsletter - your feedback was very valuable, and we appreciate it! If you're curious about the results, check out the News section below. Also, thank you to all you newsletter readers - we wish you all the best of this season, whatever your religious or secular traditions may be, and much success and prosperity in the new year! Set Up an Auto-Reply in Outlook If you're used to using Outlook in an office network, chances are you can use the Out Of Office Assistant to set up an auto-reply for your email if you're going to be out of the office. But if you're using a stand-alone version of Outlook, the Assistant isn't available. Now what? Here's what to do: Click on the Tools menu, and select Rules and Alerts (or Message Rules in earlier versions). In the dialog box that opens, you'll see a little New Rule button in the top left corner. When the Rules Wizard opens, select the option to start from a blank rule. Then, work your way through the wizard screens, clicking Next to move through them. You'll notice that you can select options in the top pane, and then set the parameters for the options in the bottom pane, by clicking on the blue text links. Hint: If you're setting up an auto-reply, make sure you set it to only reply to messages that come from people within your contacts list. That way, you're not replying to spammers! When your rule is done, you'll see it appear in the Rules list. Check the box beside your new rule, and your auto-replies will start immediately. To turn off the autoreply, just uncheck its box. Thank you to Karen Rodrigue of Timeframes Custom Picture Framing, for this question! |

Should I Upgrade to Office® 2007? As many people are now discovering, if you need to purchase new Microsoft Office® software (Word®, Excel®, Outlook®, PowerPoint®, etc.), all you can get is the 2007 version. This comes as a shock when you start it for the first time, and discover that all your familiar menus and buttons are gone, gone, gone! Many new users find the new layout easier to navigate, but for seasoned users, frustration mounts quickly during the search for basic tools like Save, New, and Print. And 2007 uses a new document format that isn't readable by earlier versions. So is it worthwhile to upgrade? Here's what you need to know: Read the complete article Looking for more articles? We're always looking for great little places to have lunch or coffee! Here's
my pick for this month: La Viena - 2139 Kensington Road N.W. - (403) 283-3063 Carol Stevens, my favourite Quickbooks advisor at (403) 804-7089, writes: "I have driven by many times & never even knew it was there! Great Italian food, excellent service & great atmosphere!" Seems like she's onto something - Yahoo Travel gives it a 4-star review. Submit a Recommendation and Win What's your favourite haunt?
